Pacific Rim Jaeger: Sabre Omega (Philippines)

Description

After watching the awesome "Pacific Rim" the other day, I tried out the Jaeger Designer at apps.warnerbros.com/pacificrim…

I hope you guys like it. You can click on the Download Image link to view the image in its full resolution. Try the Designer out yourselves. Watch the movie and support it. ^_^

I just find it odd that you can design Jaegers for countries which aren't even in the Pacific Rim region (ex. United Kingdom, etc.) I mean, Kaijus wouldn't even show up in the Atlantic or Mediterranean regions. (Although in a sequel, the aliens may open up multiple breaches)

I had to go with the city background, since most of the other backgrounds wouldn't work with the Philippines. One background has the Sydney Opera House, another has snow (which we don't get here :P) This background looks a bit like Makati City (which is near Manila). Manila was the 2nd city that got attacked, so I guess that it makes sense that we get our own Jaeger in case they attack again.

Sabre Omega's backstory:
=========================
Formerly a Mark III Jaeger designated Stalwart Sabre (paddy-one.deviantart.com/art/P…), it had seen lots of action and had numerous overhauls and upgrades over the years as the older parts were replaced, and in order to adapt to the higher category Kaijus. Eventually, most of its limbs and cockpit were upgraded to Mark V specifications. However, its nuclear vortex turbine core proved reliable and up to the task of powering the new parts, so it was kept instead of upgrading to the Mark IV power cores, as the only available Mark V XIG Supercell Chamber had been used on the only completed Mark V Jaeger, Striker Eureka.

Aside from their aversion to the Mark IV power cores' weakness against EMP strikes, Sabre's rangers liked the option of being able to fire the Nuclear Vortex Turbine as a finishing move. (They had been fans of the super robot anime of Japan in their youth).

The older, right hemisphere ranger had grown accustomed to using the Pulse Launcher and Chain Sword, and so requested to maintain the weapons of the right arm for long distance attacks. The younger, left hemisphere ranger preferred using the newer tech for close combat, and so opted for the Mark V forearm.

Since the Jaeger had undergone numerous modifications since it was first commissioned, the decision was made to change its designation from Stalwart Sabre to Sabre Omega.

The combination of old and new proved very successful, but it was eventually overwhelmed by the frequency of Kaiju attacks and the lack of time to fully complete repairs. It was one of the last Jaegers to fall prior to the closure of the Alaska Shatterdome in 2024 and the transfer of all the remaining jaegers to the Hong Kong Shatterdome.

Let me know what you think, k?

Huh...I thought the chainsword was Mako Mori's invention, implemented on the refit of Gipsy Danger.

Still, the Mk.3 chassis is pretty robust.  I like the double-core design, even when I implemented nuclear fusion as one of the cores...the fission reactor can still run the Jaeger.  And either reactor can deliver one helluva "fwoosh" through the turbine rotor.  If it ain't broke, don't fix it.

But...repeatedly using the turbine as a finishing move will sideline the Jaeger between battles...and that's a lot of mass to ship back to the Rolls-Royce plant to be re-cast (or whoever made the original MK.3 turbines...the Rolls-Royce/General Atomics assembly was relatively new, I don't think it saw service in the last known Jaegers).  It makes a good emergency measure but...do it too often and you may lock the rotor.  Jam that thing in combat and the Jaeger goes sluggish as power generation and reactor cooling go downhill and start tripping fail-safes.

Still...if it can be sent to the Los Angeles Shatterdome...we can get Sabre Omega rebuilt and refitted.  It's a good thing we have plenty of college students around.
