Black Smoke, Black Saturday

A fire broke out at a shoe factory in Mambugan, Antipolo City at around 3:45 PM on Saturday, March 22, 2008 The smoke was so thick and black that it could be seen from Makati and beyond. It darkened the skies over my house and made it look like a volcano had erupted somewhere.

I was on my way home when I saw the smoke, and tried to get a better look from the top of the Loyola Heights area. The security guard on watch from where I took this picture told me he noticed the thick smoke at around 4:10 PM. This was taken around 4:45 PM

By about 6PM, the fire that gutted Marikina Shoe Factory not far from Sumulong Highway had reached the fourth alarm.
